I love ministry! I can't think of any greater privilege to communicate God's love with other people while in the company of the people of God. But often times God slows me down to remind me that before I get busy with activities, I need to spend time quiet contemplation with God because He is the source of all my power. True ministry works best when it comes out of thoughtful worship. Listen to my talk: "In Rest and Peace is your Salvation."
Ministry is like a potluck. Potlucks are wonderful because we get to sample everyone's home cooking. They are also great because one person does not have to do all the cooking. All you must worry about at potluck is the dish that you bring. Your homemade dish may not be a great feast but when it is put together with all the dishes it becomes a great feast. The same is true with ministry, each of us brings a different talent to the table and by working together we create a great feast.
Are there nagging voices from the past dragging you down? Or do you have condemning voices in present questioning your decision? There is a lot of wisdom in the statement, "Do your best, trust God with the rest." Listen to Pastor Cheryl's talk on "Giving the Things that You Cannot Control to God.
Paul said, "Christ's love compels us", but does that phrase mean? What does Christ's love compel us to do? Listen to Pastor Cheryl's talk on the compelling love of Jesus Christ and how it shapes our vision of the world, the lost and ourselves.
People are uncomfortable with change yet God calls us to change. We can miss what God is doing in the here and now because we get distracted by looking over our shoulder at the 'good old days". In Isaiah 43:18-19 God encourages His people: "Remember not the events of the past, the things of long ago consider not; See, I am doing something new! Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? In the wilderness I make a way, in the wasteland, rivers."
Do you ever wonder why God expects us to pray. If God already knows what we need why does he expect us pray. I think there is a reason for this expectation, Faith demands participation. Listen to Pastor Cheryl's Blog on introduction of next week's sermon on the how God uses our prayers and our friends to encourage us in the faith.
